Number 12 : Love Like A Man : Ten Years After

Jumping into the Top 20 at Number 12 was the blues band Ten Years After with the track Love Like a Man. Led by the late Alvin Lee, this was the group's only song to feature in the UK Singles Chart, eventually peaking at Number 10. The record itself has its own place in vinyl history, as it was the first with a differing playing speed on each side. The 'A' Side was an edited version of the song lasting three minutes at 45rpm, while the flip featured a live version played at 33rpm and lasting almost eight minutes.

The track can be found on the band's fifth album, Cricklewood Green.

Following Ten Years After into the twenty was the second hit of the year for Pickettywitch, led by singer Polly Brown. Whereas the previous hit managed a Top 5 placing, the Tony Macaulay/John Macleod-penned (It's Like A) Sad Old Kinda Movie could only peak at its placing of this week: Number 16.

Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I'm Yours) was the twelfth appearance by Stevie Wonder on the British charts, but not the big hit that we might think we remember it as. In the States it went Top 3, but the UK left it floundering at a peak of Number 15. The track was notable as being the first to give Wonder a Grammy nomination, as well as to feature his backing singers The Third Generation, which included his wife Syreeta Wright.

The Scottish band Marmalade was enjoying its most commercially successful period, following the million selling Reflections of My Life with this track called Rainbow. While it didn't catch on in the States as its predecessor had done, in the UK this marvellous song equalled Reflections peak of Number 3.

Until next time...
